Repair FAQs

Are adhesives flammable?

Most solvent based adhesives are flammable. Always work in a ventilated area and do not breathe in vapours. Avoid exposing the product to any ignition sources. Do not smoke when working with adhesives.

Can I reuse Bostik Mounting Tape Strips

Bostik Mounting Tape Strips are designed for one-time use. Attempting to reuse them may result in reduced adhesion and may not securely mount the object. For repositioning, it's recommended to use new Mounting Tape Strips for optimal results.

Can I use Bostik Mounting Tape Strips on all surfaces?

While Bostik Mounting Tape is designed for use on smooth surfaces such as tiles, metal, wood, glass, and fiberglass, it's not suitable for rough or crumbly surfaces. Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dust or grease for optimal adhesion.

How do I clean my applicator tools?

Wet and dried adhesive on applicator tools can be cleaned with acetone, thinners or parrafin. Please refer to the Technical Data Sheet of the specific product for more information.

How do I know how to stick two materials together?

Discover our new Bostik Glue Guide to discover what product to use.

How do I prepare the surfaces to be glued?

Before applying glue, ensure that all surfaces are of sound nature and clean, dry and free from dust, grease or any other contamination.

How do I remove glue from my fingers?

Rinse your fingers immediately with plenty of warm soapy water and do not pull on the skin that has been glued. If glue remains after using warm soapy water, it will often de-bond within a couple of days due to general wear and tear and the natural oils in the skin. If skin irritation occurs, consult a doctor.

How do I remove objects mounted with Bostik Mounting Tape Strips?

To remove mounted objects, carefully peel them off the surface. Start from one corner and gently pull away, avoiding sudden jerks that could damage the surface. If residue remains, use an adhesive remover like our Bostik Glu Go or rubbing alcohol to clean the area.

How do I remove sticky residue from tapes?

Adhesive residue from most sticky tapes can be removed with acetone. Always test a small area first.

How do I store my adhesive?

Most adhesives have a shelf life of at least 12 months if stored in a cool (below 25°C), dry place in its original moisture-tight container. If the material is kept beyond the recommended shelf life, it is not necessarily unusable, but a check should be performed to observe whether the product is still workable, apply-able and uncured.

How do I store super glue?

We recommend storing in a refrigerator to lengthen the shelf life. Refrigerated packaging should be allowed to return to room temperature prior to use.

How to get label glue off plastic

Wet adhesive can be removed using a solvent such as acetone, applied with a clean cloth. For dried adhesive, it can be removed mechanically or softened with acetone before wiping away. Always test first to ensure the plastic is not affected.

How to glue plastic

Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust or grease. Lightly abrade and clean with a solvent for better adhesion. Apply an even layer of adhesive to both surfaces, allow it to become tacky, then press firmly together. Full bond strength typically develops after 24 hours.

What is the shelf life of the adhesive i bought and where can i store it?

The shelf life of adhesives varies from product to product, but typically ranges between one and two years from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored correctly in dry conditions - usually between +5°C and +25°C. Once opened, the life of the product will be more limited – this is dictated by variables including the type of adhesive, how it is stored, and how much adhesive is left unused. For more information, refer to the product’s Technical Data Sheet.

What is the strongest glue to use on plastic?

A strong polyurethane-based plastic glue like Bostik Soft Plastics is designed for durable, long-lasting bonding on many plastics. It provides a flexible, waterproof bond and adheres well to materials such as PVC, ABS, Perspex, and solid polystyrene.
