Instructions

Step 1: Cut & paste the wings

Fold one A4 sheet of coloured card in half and cut out a large heart shape - this will transform into the butterfly wings.

Glue the two bottom ends of the heart together using Bostik PVA white Glu to create a sturdy base and leave to dry for several minutes.

Step 2: Make the body

Once your wings are dry, use the peg to secure the wings together, forming the butterfly's body.

Step 3: Decorate the wings

Use your second sheet of coloured card to cut out fun shapes: hearts, circles, tiny wings, spots - anything!

You can also add pens, pencils, or paints for extra flair to mimic real 3D paper butterflies.

Tacky's tip

Children can arrange them however they like, giving their peg butterfly craft its own personality.

Step 4: Create the antennae

Cut two slim paper strips. Glue them to the top of the peg to become the butterfly’s antennae.

Step 5: Add googly eyes

Stick the googly eyes just below the antennae. Watch the butterfly come to life!

Step 6: Add detail to the antennae

Cut two tiny circles and glue them to the ends of the antennae. This simple detail adds charm and character.

Step 7: Give your DIY butterfly character

Use a felt tip pens, pencils or paints to draw a cheerful smile on your butterfly. Now it’s ready to flutter into imaginative playtime!
