How to use

Work on a protected area as spills can damage sensitive surfaces, such as polished, cellulose surfaces and fabrics. Wearing gloves is recommended.

Make sure all surfaces to be bonded are clean and dry, free from dust, dirt, and grease. When bonding leather, avoid spills onto the shiny side as a mark will be left.

Application

  • To bond non-absorbent surfaces such as metal or glass, use a brush to apply a thin film of adhesive to both surfaces. Allow 5 to 10 minutes drying time and then, having correctly positioned the surfaces, press them together firmly. The bond will be instant and non-adjustable.
  • If one or both surfaces are absorbent apply a generous film of adhesive to one surface only and immediately join the two surfaces together under pressure. Note: using this technique, initial bond strengths will be lower.

Cleaning

  • Remove surplus adhesive using nail varnish remover or acetone.

FAQs

How do you prepare leather before using Leather Repair?

Before applying Bostik Leather Repair, make sure the leather or imitation leather surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease, polish and other contaminants.

Preparing the material properly helps the adhesive make better contact with the surface and can improve the durability of leather repairs, patching and restoration projects. Allow the cleaned surface to dry completely before applying the adhesive.

What is the best way to remove Leather Glue from skin?

If Bostik Leather Glue gets on your fingers or skin, remove any excess adhesive as soon as possible before it dries completely.

Surplus adhesive can be cleaned away using acetone or nail varnish remover. When using Bostik Leather Glue, wearing gloves can help reduce the risk of accidental skin contact.

How long can Leather Repair be stored?

Bostik Leather Repair can be stored for up to 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored as directed.

For best results, store the adhesive in cool, dry conditions below 30°C, away from direct sunlight, and keep the container properly closed when not in use. Correct storage helps maintain product performance throughout its shelf life.

Which is better for leather repairs: Leather Repair or Super Glue?

For most leather repair projects, Bostik Leather Glue is the better choice because it is specifically designed for bonding leather and imitation leather while maintaining flexibility after drying.

Bostik Super Glue is a fast-curing cyanoacrylate adhesive that creates a strong bond in seconds and can be useful for quick repairs. However, when the repaired item needs to flex during normal use, Bostik Leather Glue is generally the more suitable option.

What does viscosity mean?

Viscosity describes how easily a liquid flows. A low-viscosity adhesive is thinner and flows more easily, while a high-viscosity adhesive is thicker and is less likely to run or drip.

In adhesives and sealants, viscosity can affect application, spreadability and how the product performs on vertical or horizontal surfaces.
