How to use
For best results, ensure fabrics and materials to be bonded are clean and dry.
- Point the fabric glue tube away from you and unscrew the cap.
- Push the top of the cap into the top of the tube to pierce the seal, then screw on the applicator.
- Apply a bead of glue to each of the surfaces to be bonded and spread it out with the applicator.
- Press both surfaces together immediately and allow to dry. The fabric adhesive will remain flexible when dry.
- After use, remove the applicator and replace the cap. Wash the applicator in warm water whilst still wet so it's ready for next time.
How to remove fabric glue
- To remove wet adhesive, quickly wash using warm soapy water. Repeat washing the item, if necessary, then rinse and dry.
- To remove dry adhesive from fabric, use a cleaner or solvent and lightly dab the area. It is important to test an inconspicuous area of the fabric first, to prevent damaging your garment.
Applications
This fabric glue can be used for hems, trouser turn-ups, pockets and repairing worn sleeves. It is also suitable for attaching cloth labels and badges to children’s clothes, taking up curtain hems, attaching pelmets and decorating soft furnishings. For torn fabric, apply the adhesive to the inside of the garment and to a patch, then smooth into place. A small drop can also help stop buttons from unthreading, while a small amount can be rolled onto frayed lace ends.
Limitations
Bostik Fabric Glue is not suitable for 100% nylon, polyester fabrics, non-porous fabric or non-porous material. On open-weave, light-coloured or delicate fabrics, the glue may come through to the other side. Too much adhesive or pressure may cause a similar effect or darkening of the fabric, so test on a small hidden area before use.
FAQs
How does Fabric Glue work?
Bostik Fabric Glue forms a permanent bond by adhering to the fibres of the fabric.
Will Fabric Glue stop fraying?
Absolutely. Bostik Fabric Glue provides a strong, flexible bond that prevents fraying.
Is Fabric Glue washable?
Yes, Bostik Fabric Glue is machine-washable so is perfect for clothing repairs and can withstand everyday wear and tear.
How long does it take Fabric Glue to dry?
We recommend allowing for around 24 hours for Bostik Fabric Glue to completely cure, though it may be dry to the touch in less time.
How do I prepare the surfaces to be glued?
Before applying glue, ensure that all surfaces are of sound nature and clean, dry and free from dust, grease or any other contamination.
There is glue on my fingers and I can't remove it, what should I do?
Rinse your fingers immediately with plenty of warm soapy water and do not pull on the skin that has been glued. If glue remains after using warm soapy water, it will often de-bond within a couple of days due to general wear and tear and the natural oils in the skin. If skin irritation occurs, consult a doctor.
What is the shelf life of the adhesive I have bought and where can I store it?
The shelf life of adhesives varies from product to product, but typically ranges between one and two years from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored correctly in dry conditions - usually between +5°C and +25°C. Once opened, the life of the product will be more limited – this is dictated by variables including the type of adhesive, how it is stored, and how much adhesive is left unused. For more information, refer to the product’s Technical Data Sheet.
