How to repair a child's paddling pool using plastic glue

The unpredictable weather in the UK, along with the often significant cost, means most people opt against installing a permanent swimming pool in their garden.

However, during the sunnier months, after a long day at work or school, or at a family gathering or BBQ, there’s nothing better than taking a dip in a pool to relax and cool off.

A convenient solution is an inflatable pool - also known as a child’s paddling pool or kiddie pool - great for kids, adults and even pets!

Inflatable pools are usually made of vinyl or PVC, which can suffer from perforation. To be safe, it is a good idea to acquire a paddling pool repair kit including vinyl repair glue so that you can quickly and effectively seal any puncture.

There is no need to throw away a punctured paddling pool. Grab your glue, follow our 6 simple steps and learn how to fix a tear in an inflatable pool using Bostik Soft Plastics glue.

Preparing a paddling pool hole repair

To repair a PVC swimming pool, you will need:

Depending on the conditions in your pool and the size and location of the rip, you may be required to drain the water from your pool until it is completely dry. Once drained, thoroughly clean the treated surface of your pool to remove any algae or dirt before you begin.

Now you're ready to start your repair…

Step-by-step to fix a hole in a paddling pool:

Step 1: Cut your patch

Use scissors to cut your vinyl patch to size - the patch should be at least one centimeter wider than the area you want to cover. We also recommend cutting an oval-shaped patch.

Tip: If the area you are repairing is hard to distinguish, you can cut a larger patch for easier application. Please note that the larger the patch, the more noticeable your repair will be.

Step 2: Apply your vinyl repair glue

Apply a thick layer of adhesive onto the patch and spread it evenly with a plastic spatula or brush.

Tip: It is important to ensure the patch's edges are fully glued for a successful repair.

Step 3: Press the patch over the hole

Once the glue has been applied, let it dry for 5-10 minutes and then press the patch firmly against the ripped surface of the paddling pool.

Step 4: Remove any air bubbles

Smooth out the applied patch, removing any air bubbles so you have fully sealed the ripped area.

Step 5: Clean excess glue

Wipe off any excess glue. That’s it - you have fixed the hole in your inflatable pool and are now a #REPAIRHERO!
