Celebrating 55 Years of Blu Tack®: A Timeline of Milestones
Blu Tack® has been a household name since its creation in 1969. Over the years, it has grown into more than just a crafting tool, helping people around the world in countless ways. Here are some of the key milestones in its impressive history:
1969 – Blu Tack® Created – "Original"
Blu Tack® was invented as a versatile adhesive that could hold papers, posters, and more.
1981 – Sinclair ZX81
When the RAM in the Sinclair ZX81 computer would disconnect and cause crashes, Blu Tack® stepped in to help by temporarily holding the components in place.
1990s – Animal Charity Packs
Throughout the 90s, Blu Tack® raised awareness and funds for animal charities, including the Seal Appeal, Whales and Dolphins conservation, and more.
2000 – Year of Sculptures
Artists James White and Tim Sherward used Blu Tack® to create large sculptures, showcasing the material's versatility and creative potential.
2007 – Bluey the Giant Spider
A giant spider sculpture made from 4,000 packs of Blu Tack® was created, weighing an impressive 200kg.
2013 – Better Than Earplugs
Research found that Blu Tack® can cancel noise more effectively than earplugs and is more comfortable. **Disclaimer:** But we would not recommend this even though Blu Tack® is non-toxic.
2016 – Recommended for Earthquakes
Blu Tack® was officially recommended by the New Zealand Earthquake Commission for securing objects during earthquakes.
2017 – BluHacks Campaign Launched
The popular BluHacks campaign featured creative DIY hacks from fans around the world.
2019 – TV Ad Campaign Launched
Blu Tack® launched its first TV ad campaign, bringing even more visibility to the brand.
