FAQs
Are glue gun sticks toxic?
Glue gun sticks are generally not considered toxic during normal use. However, when heated, glue gun adhesives may release fumes that can be irritating for some people, particularly those with respiratory sensitivities.
To help ensure safe use, work in a well-ventilated area and follow the instructions provided with the glue gun and adhesive sticks. As with many heated products, avoid using them near potential ignition sources.
Can I use any glue sticks with my glue gun?
No - using the wrong glue sticks could block and damage your Bostik glue gun. We have three variations of glue gun, Handy Hot Melt Glue Gun, DIY Hot Melt Glue Gun and Craft Cool Melt Glue Gun and each of our glue guns have specific glue sticks that are available.
Bostik glue gun sticks are sold as individual packs of 14 Hot Melt Glue Sticks or 26 Cool Melt Glue Sticks.
Should you remove a Glue Stick from a glue gun?
No, it is generally recommended to leave a partially used Glue Stick inside the glue gun. Removing it may put unnecessary strain on the feeding mechanism and could affect how the tool operates.
If excess Glue Stick extends from the back of the gun, it can be trimmed carefully. Once the remaining Glue Stick becomes too short to feed properly, simply insert a new Glue Stick and continue using the glue gun as normal.
How long do glue guns last?
A glue gun’s lifespan can vary depending on its use. Sometimes, a glue gun can stop working due to a glue stick being jammed or stuck in the gun, causing a blockage in the nozzle. Ensure you are always using the right glue sticks for your glue gun to avoid this problem.
Is Glue Gun glue waterproof?
Yes, Bostik Glue Gun Glue is highly water resistant and can provide a long-lasting bond in many DIY and repair applications. Once the adhesive has cooled and fully set, it can withstand moisture, temperature fluctuations and general wear.
To achieve the best performance, apply Bostik Glue Gun Glue to clean, dry surfaces and allow the adhesive to set fully before exposing the bond to demanding conditions.
What is the difference between a hot melt glue gun and cool melt glue gun?
The Bostik Handy Hot Melt Glue Gun and DIY Hot Melt Glue Gun operates at a high temperature and is great for providing an ultra strong, long-lasting bond for challenging materials such as polypropylene, plastics, ABS, acrylics and even metals.
The Bostik Craft Cool Melt Glue Gun operates at a lower temperature and is commonly used for bonding heat-sensitive materials such as styro-foam, ribbon and polystyrene, which a hot glue gun could melt. Plus, with being cooler, they can be safer to use, which is great for younger crafters or in school environments.
What is the operating temperature for a glue gun?
