Celebrating 30 years of the Pink Ribbon
We’ve partnered with the Pink Ribbon Foundation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the creation of the pink ribbon as the symbol for breast cancer awareness.
The Pink Ribbon Foundation is a grant making trust that provides support and funding to breast cancer charities throughout the UK and beyond. The list of over 250 charities supported by the Foundation to date includes many small organisations, which operate on a shoestring.
For many of these smaller charities, a grant from the Pink Ribbon Foundation can make a huge difference.
Supporting over 250 breast cancer charities
Every year nearly 55,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK, that’s the equivalent of one person every 10 minutes.
A grant from the Pink Ribbon Foundation can provide a highly skilled programme of care, complimentary therapies, counselling for patients and their families, up-to-date communication materials, awareness programmes, lymphedema care, therapy sessions, specialist equipment, extra nurses, vital research and much more.
However, with finances getting tighter and charities struggling to cope with demand, there is always a huge pressure on the Foundation’s resources.
Quite simply, the Pink Ribbon Foundation wants to support as many individuals and charities as possible, but can only continue to do this with the help of others.
Information on how to apply for a grant can be found on the Pink Ribbon Foundation website.
Learn how to check your breasts
A lump or thickening in the breast or armpit tissue is the first symptom in 80-90% of breast cancers.
Breasts come in different shapes and sizes. They can change with age and vary at different times of the month. Knowing your breasts and what is normal for you is important, as it will make it easier to spot any unusual changes.
The Pink Ribbon Foundation have created an invaluable guide to help you check your breasts for any signs of breast cancer.
